Listen

It occurred to me today that I have no road map for where I am going,
I am just compelled to make paintings more than anything else.
This morning I was looking for an out of print book, Life Is Paradise,
when I stumbled on this great interview with one of my
favorite artists, Francesco Clemente. It is so insightful.
If you have a moment click here to listen
I'm not sure he has a road map either.

  1. Very interesting- thank you for the link Holly- I liked so much of what he was saying-like when he was asked how a painter finds his voice and he said:'you make room'...and later when he concluded by saying the best thing for a painter is to 'cultivate vulnerablility'-
    Great stuff, thank you-

  2. He said so many great things and I adore his work. Embrace the shadows. I like that. I saw his retrospective at the Guggenheim years ago. It's my favorite museum. The spiral, the large view and the intimacy of the niches.

  4. Yes. My head is filled with ideas but I don't really plan the actual work. Most of the time I start painting and let things happen. I walk away a lot because watercolor is unforgiving.

  5. I'm with you. Plans are difficult to follow when inspiration strikes. I like to think I have more of goals without a timeline!
