Fur

I'm reading about taxidermy mounts.
Don't worry, it's not an art form I care to explore.
There won't be a how-to, though I am fascinated.

Reading about taxidermy has me thinking about fur,
trophies and souvenirs.

  1. This bat, with his wings splayed open is a beautiful portrait! I love the living bats that fling thru the air at dusk in my woods and around my yard and above my house - I consider them sweet allies against the continual attack of mosquitoes! Bat boxes can help these really important pollinators. Thanks for sharing him with us!

  3. Just beautiful. The detail on the bat wings is exceptional. And despite not being a fan of mosquitos or flies, I love the way you've painted them (but I kinda get attracted to things I don't like!).

  4. Holly, your work is amazing, and these pieces are fascinating and beautiful. I've been a fan of yours for quite a few years and I'm always pleased when I find us in the same treasuries!!
I have a fascination with taxidermy and found an article on a great auction that took place in England last year - my favorite was a cat that had wings attached...thanks for the link to the book about the history of it....it's on my wish list now!
One day I will own a piece of your original work!!!!

Linda, I think the morbid anatomy blog had photos of these creatures you mentioned! They were quite interesting.
