More Feathers

Fanciful Feather Collection No. 1

Today I added a new set of paintings on Flickr: Feathers
It's really nice to see the paintings as a group. Many have
flown away to their new homes around the globe.

I started this large format series after making two paintings
for a client. I love working larger. It presents a challenge though,
as it is hard to convey the size online.

I am working on new birds and hope to share
them with you later this week!

Secret Garden

Strolling through the Bishop's Garden
at the Washington National Cathedral.

Narrow stone pathways covered with moss
lead you into a beautiful secret garden.

It's a magical place to visit in the summer.

Flock

I was in Washington, DC yesterday and had to stop and visit the birds

at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
Aren't they marvelous specimens?

Jaws

I found this divine flying creature on the sidewalk.
I almost mistook it for a leaf.

I'm calling it Jaws because I have no idea what it is.
Look at the pincers. Or is it a mighty mandible?

The pattern in the wings is so subtle and beautiful.
It is about three inches long. Any ideas?

Le Coup

Have you seen the documentary Man On Wire?
I just watched it last night. It's fabulous.
And it made me think...

Dreams, ideas, projects, passions all begin somewhere and
yet they might not become anything for years.
They lie dormant in your mind,
on scraps of paper, in your sketchbook.

Waiting for just the right moment to grow into something,
to take hold, and rise up. Maybe it will happen today
or tomorrow or in six years,
like Philippe Petit's dream in Man On Wire.

Land Shells

These are certainly not shells from the sea.
I found these cicada shells on my fence post.
They are covered in dirt.

The newly emerged cicadas left them behind.
I can hear them buzzing in the trees on this hot summer day.
