Felicity, I rather like the spots, but I don't think you will find them on real crocuses. ; ) And full disclosure: crocuses really grow from corms, not bulbs.
Have you come across the amazingly artistic, if slightly eerie world of the blog, The Hermitage? Don't quite know why I suddenly thought of it, but some of your trees and insects slightly reminded me of hers.

Do crocuses really have little spots on their bulbs or is that artistic lisence?
