I'm often asked about my watercolors, the materials I use and how to use them.
I'm thinking of starting a little Watercolor 101 series here in my drawing room.
Here are some ideas: paint, paper, palette, brushes, how-to techniques,
where to buy art supplies, care - best practices, framing and display.
Whether you are an artist, collector, just having fun or simply curious,
is there something that you would like to know? Ask me.

Hey Holly,
ReplyDeleteNo question about paint of brushes, but: which scanner do you use?
Since mine is old now, I'm looking for a new one.
Your work is great!
yes yes!!! this is what I need :)
ReplyDeletecan't wait!!! my questions would be the basic how to get started (sketching, painting, etc) brushes, papers, etc...pretty much anything you'd like to share. thank you thank you
I love your work also and will be looking forward to the series, I want to know it all!
ReplyDeletewhich paints do you use, fav brushes and what inspires your paintings!
I think your work is amazing. I am interested in the paper you use, what paints you like, and what your palette is. Your colors are wonderfully "vintage". Do you paint mainly in gouache, w/c , a combo?
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in very basic watercolor techniques..like how to apply the color to the brush, mix colors, take care of brushes, how much water to use, how to take care of the colors in your set, etc. =) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to see you do a 101. Your style of painting is adorable and I'd really enjoy seeing maybe a sequence of photos from start to end to get an idea of what you're doing. I think the way you put paint on the paper is so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to participate in something like this!! I have recently taken a few online classes and have really enjoyed them. Sign me up!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Keep your questions coming!
ReplyDeleteWow this would be so excellent!!
ReplyDeleteGosh I have loads of questions :)
What paints do you use?
Do you use different ones from differents makers and mix them?
I would love to learn different painting techniques!
How to use different brushes techniques?
What's the best way to scan ie. resolution? What scanner do you use?
Where do you get your inspiration from?
ps. Love your work :)
I’m so excited you are asking for questions! 1st I love your work and your blog! I would love to know your process - from creating your artwork to placing an item in your shop. For example –Do you paint from life, photos or both? Do you sketch with pencil under your paintings or do you just start with a light sketch in watercolor? I would also like to know what scanner you use. I’m sorry I have so many questions. I can’t wait to read your upcoming posts :)
ReplyDeleteI would like to know which brushes do what. I'm just beginning in w.c. and that's the bit I haven't sorted yet.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great and wonderful, generous thing to do!
Oh Golly, this is a great opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know about the detailed work, ie, brushes you use, where do you get the inspiration for the patterns.
The paper and paints... colors...
To be honest I want to know everything you can share.
Thank you.
...a video of you painting would be great!
Dear Golly Bard,
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this series! I have admired your watercolours for a long time... I would love to see you work! My questions are: what are your favorite green's? What do you use the long thin brush for? And then, this dosn't have much to do with watercolours but what nib do you use when you do your wonderful calligraphy...! It is very very beautiful. From portugal I send my admiration and many thank you's for sharing.
P.
thanks for all of your painting question! I hope to start my watercolor 101 posts later next week. If you think of any other questions - just post them here!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see some posts on some of these questions. It is so wonderful you are doing this, I will be following.
ReplyDeleteI work in ceramics but love painting too and want to learn more and I ADORE your style!
Cathy
Hi Holly, the question I have is what camera, techniques you use to photograph your art. They show up really well on the computer.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know what type of paint you use for the mettalic "sparkly" bits you add.
ReplyDeleteexcellent! looking forward to seeing the answers:)
ReplyDeleteThis is going to make it obvious that I have no experience, but your clean lines amaze me. How do you do that? Is that strictly paper choice?
ReplyDeletei would just love to see you in action. From beginning to end, building up the layers.
ReplyDeleteI always like to see how the artist. Do you have a sketchbook? Do you use images? Composition. Etc. Everything i guess :)
Please tell me/us about your calligraphy. Can you provide instructions for forming the letters? It's so lovely. does the typeface have a name?
ReplyDeleteMany thanks.
Yes, I would like to know more about your beautiful writing too! Do you use a small brush for that? Or a pen of some sort? I wish I could write like that!
ReplyDeleteYour work is wonderful. I like your color sense and your feel for nature.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to experiment with gouache and noticed some of your adventures with this medium. Would you share your palette of gouache of the bright and bold colors? When I went to look at the art store it was
difficult to tell which would be bright from the color bands.
