Glimmering Light

New bird specimens: Northern Flickers.
They are my favorite type of woodpecker.
They like to eat ants and beetles.

Found Spring

Happy Monday all!
of things found on my walks.

The butterfly had lost a wing
and I couldn't just leave him on the curb.
He is just too pretty.

Maidenhair

These little maidenhair ferns will be in my shop soon.
It has been a busy few days and
I'm looking forward to the weekend.

The Middleburg Spring Races are this weekend.
I can't wait to spend the day outside,
 picnic with friends and family,
and photograph the weird and wonderful taxidermy
that often graces the table at such events.

Skeletons

Just a few pictures of skeletons from my trip
to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
They are just exquisite.

Butterfly Pavilion

My cousins are vacationing in Washington, DC this weekend,
so I ventured into the city yesterday to meet up with them
and tour some of the museums and monuments.

The highlight of my excursion was visiting the Butterfly Pavilion
at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
A live exhibit of moths and butterflies!

We were told to be very careful because the butterflies
fly low and could possibly land on you!
One landed on my cousin's finger!

Fantasy Gardens

My fantasy gardens would not be complete
without a water feature and requisite swans.
New paintings available in my shop!

Nature and Artifice

I think I can safely say that I love the romantic as much as the scientific.
There is something truly romantic about formal gardens,
beautifully planned parks and even cemeteries.
They appeal to my orderly ways, my obsession with patterns,
my love of flowers and trees.
So I started this little series of knot gardens.

I have never been to England, believe me - I dream of the day.
However, I have have seen some truly amazing gardens in my travels.
Some small, some grand - from Dumbarton Oaks to Versailles.
I never tire of these outdoor rooms, so artfully crafted.

Sunshine

Yellow is all around us.
Spring is here. Forsythia is blooming.
The grey willows have gone to seed.
The sun is shining!
