Howl

Remember my stumpy grey wolf?
He found a big blue moon.
I think they belong together.

Down

There are so many lovely little things at my feet.
I'm glad I looked down.

Death Threats

Another day. Another walk. Another death threat.

As if the walnuts were not bad enough,
monkey brains are dropping from the sky.
Also known as Osage Oranges, these huge, meaty seeds
are the size of a softball and weigh a ton.
As far as I'm concerned, one strike and you're out!
There's no chance of survival. I fear the worst.
Will I have to wear a helmet? A frightening thought.
It's certainly not an attractive fruit and it's not even edible.
However, it might have one redeeming quality.
Osage Oranges are supposed to act as an insect repellent.
I could be saved from a few mosquito bites.

Bones

Lulu and I were walking in the field
when we came across some deer bones.

They were scattered all around.
Picked clean by the vultures.

While I was taking pictures,
Lulu was taking the opportunity to sample the buffet.
Needless to say, I was not pleased.
We had words.

Looming

I risked my life to take these photos.
Walking near a black walnut tree
at this time of year is simply courting disaster.
The heavy nuts drop to the ground with a great big thud.
Hundreds more loom above.

Every time I walk by this tree I imagine my death.
People will ask how I died.
My husband will have to say I was killed by a nut.
No, not a crazy person, a giant tree nut. Pummeled.
This isn't the way I want to make my exit.
I'll walk faster next time.

Shadows

I've returned from the desert.

The sun was so bright against the stones.
I cast quite a long shadow.

The truth is I'm such a shorty.
So I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures
of my giant self in silhouette.

Harvest

A lovely day at a local vineyard in Virginia.

Celebrating the harvest season.

The grapes are almost ready for picking!

Hunting

Sometimes I just cut paintings up.

Hunting for direction.

Zoological Garden

Just a few pictures from the Space Farms menagerie.
A very eccentric collection of wild animals, to say the least.
The collection is a bit zooey. Pun intended.
