Matthews House and Garden

If you are ever inclined to spend a day in the country,
do visit Upperville, Virginia. Nestled in the foothills of the
blue ridge mountains, between beautiful horse farms,
vineyards, rolling hills and endless rock walls,
you will find Matthews House and Garden, a lovely boutique
tucked inside a reclaimed Primitive Baptist church.

Recently featured in Elle Decor and Apartment Therapy,
Matthews houses an exquisite home collection artfully curated
by owners Wanda Crossley, interior designer, and
Kevin Chadwick, illustrator and artist.
The vast, light filled space is filled with a wonderful, fresh mix
of old and new. It's the kind of place that makes you want a do-over.

So many of you have asked to see my work in person and
I am pleased to tell you that Matthews has several
of my giant dragonfly paintings framed and ready to hang!

Flipper

This creepy little hairy brown bug has funny frog legs.

He reminds me of a little rat with flippers.

Any idea what it is?

Flora and Fauna

A collection for September.
Dried flora and fauna.

Found in the neighboring fields.

Tiny moths on my front porch.
Garden markers pulled from the ground.

Little Green Charmer

Where do I begin?
His wings? His adorable little snout?

That brilliant color green?
What's not to love about this little green charmer?

I'm smitten.
p.s.
More pictures of this fine fellow on flickr!

Slowly

Progress is slow on this next painting.
A large covey of birds.
I thought I would give you a sneak peek. A tiny slice.
I do hope to finish it soon.
Have a wonderful week all!

Taxis

I'm reading about taxonomy.
The origin of the word is taxis which means arrangement.
There is nothing I love more.

Vestiges

Three snake skins found in the yard.
One on the ground. Two in our big tree.

It's a little eerie. Look at the eye!

Fur

I'm reading about taxidermy mounts.
Don't worry, it's not an art form I care to explore.
There won't be a how-to, though I am fascinated.

Reading about taxidermy has me thinking about fur,
trophies and souvenirs.

Tackle

Pictures of my father's fishing tackle.

We spent our last summer weekend at camp.

Summer is over and it's time to tackle some new paintings.

I've been thinking about rodents, autumn, and fur...
so stay tuned for new paintings in my shop.
Have a fabulous weekend all!
