Nature and Artifice

I think I can safely say that I love the romantic as much as the scientific.
There is something truly romantic about formal gardens,
beautifully planned parks and even cemeteries.
They appeal to my orderly ways, my obsession with patterns,
my love of flowers and trees.
So I started this little series of knot gardens.

I have never been to England, believe me - I dream of the day.
However, I have have seen some truly amazing gardens in my travels.
Some small, some grand - from Dumbarton Oaks to Versailles.
I never tire of these outdoor rooms, so artfully crafted.

These are fantastic holly! I love how you can apply the same delicacy and texture to a larger scene like this, as you do to your paintings of feathers and leaves. gorgeous :)
