Feeding Frenzy

frenzy of finches
A feeding frenzy of finches on my feeders!
I know it sounds crazy, but I've never had bird feeders before and I love it!

frenzy of finches II
Yesterday I counted about eighty goldfinches and purple finches around the feeders.
I've also had a few woodpeckers, chickadees, tufted titmice, wrens and sparrows too.
I could watch them all day!

Welcome to the world of watching birds at the feeder! Birds bring me such joy and are really so very grateful. Around here, however, its about time I stop feeding them or I'll have the big old bear here mangling the feeders... I need to let the birds forage on their own until the bears are tucked into their dens again in late fall.. I like the bears, too, but I'll miss feeder-watching!

wow! that is a frenzy of finches!!! i love watching the birds at the feeders, especially in winter, they really love it! i have been trying to attract the purple and strawberry finches, but they seem to be eluding me... maybe i need a different seed mixture!
have fun bird watching!

Lynn: it's so much fun!

Valerianna: my parents only feed birds in winter because of the black bears. Better to be safe!

Owlie: You must try the small, black oiled sunflower seeds - the finches love it and you will get the purple ones!

What fun....I love having bird feeders, but it's hard to keep them going for the rather aggressive squirrels around here. They practically carry their own tool belts to make sure they can get the feeder mangled beyond repair...especially the ones designed to keep them out...they get especially mad then! Love all the finches! I refer to all the birds that come to the feeder collectively and most affectionately as "bird brains"....speaking of which...time to get some seed out for my bird brains!! Have fun!

So happy you're enjoying your bird feeders! My Don and I used to enjoy watching the goldfinches through the window! They are so colorful and he could see them from his bed. Lovely photos!

It's so nice to take a break and watch them for a few minutes! I just saw a little nuthatch. Not too many squirrels, but I think the grackles are going to be trouble. They are starting to stalk.

I love to watch the birds in my garden too; now busy building nests. Wonderful to listen to their songs and chattering while doing some gardening, well loved companions. Enjoy! x

Wow! So many! It is exciting to watch the birds, they are so social and open to people. Sometimes they even get in the house to check how things are going, haha. I love those purple finches, have never seen them before.

Love them! My husband's nan has a host of feeders for birds in her garden, I can sit and watch them for hours. Love Bull finches, they're gorgeous. Sadly, we can't risj having feeders due to many cats in our area...including two of the furry lovelies of our own!

I'm so jealous! I have a lot of bird activity here, but certainly not eighty finches! No wonder your work is so amazing!! Thank you for sharing this. :D

I have my feeders right outside the window of my studio, the birds are always entertaining and a very welcome distraction!

Isn't it amazing to have feeders, and watch who comes and goes. Sometimes I just want to stay home from work, so I don't miss a moment of it!
