A Closer Look | Flying Grasshopper

departed
I found this little flying grasshopper specimen yesterday.

departed no. 2
Even though he has departed, his wings still have a bit of color and the patterns are lovely.

departed no. 3
It might be a Carolina Grasshopper. Does anyone know?

I do not know what kind of grasshopper, but what a beauty nonetheless. Its wings are exquisite - I've not seen grasshopper wings like that. Or, perhaps I have but they were moving too quickly! I love your blog, your eye, your art.

One of my favorite grasshopper types from my childhood! They would always blend in so well with the dusty, dry ground that seems to be prevalent when they are active... then they would fly up suddenly when approached.

So difficult to catch.

Love the wing close ups!

Thanks all! I'm glad you liked the pictures! A little update: I left the grasshopper outside and somehow Birdie found him and decided he would make a tasty treat. A little apres dinner dessert. On gulp. Gone. So sad. : (

Anyway, Have a wonderful weekend!

We have these everywhere in Ontario.
I have been trying to google them for a while now and have had not too much luck.

Great photos!

What a strange and disturbing little creature--that face! A little like a tiny monkey, a little like an evil little fairy. But so cool, no matter how it looks!

Fantastic photos and we don't have such a amazing sort of grasshopers. I'm flashed and intrigued by the look of his face!

Hi all! I took a close up of his face on flickr, but didn't include it here. He does look a bit like a monkey. The grey pallor of death makes his face look a little creepy, though. You know that never stops me!

Gorgeous! I came across a beautiful green caterpillar (dead unfortunately) on my walk tonight, for once I didn't have my camera with me with.
