I let my parsley grow wild in hope of attracting black swallowtails.
I inspect every bit of milkweed along the roadside, eyes peeled for a monarch chrysalis.
Summer after summer I patiently wait but I never quite find what I'm looking for.
This morning after cutting back my now inedible parsley,
I looked down to find a different kind of hatching.
Perhaps it's not a butterfly, but wow, isn't the cicada beautiful too?

Sensational pictures,

Sometimes we can find beauty in surprising places.

Absolutely AMAZING images! We find their super shells... hear their songs and you shared their fantastic portraits~ :)
Quite!
Thanks all! They are such a pretty shade of green when they first emerge!
Beautiful bug! I hope this critter inspires a watercolor likeness.
Wow, What a Beauty!

Wow! The patterns on the overlaid, transparent wings are amazing! Thank you!
Their wings seem otherworldly.
Can't wait to see you work these photos into another incredible painting.
Amazing color -- have never seen them in this stage. Fabulous photos, Holly! Thanks for sharing.
thank you for theses, so lovely!
Incredible photos Holly! Thank you for sharing these:)
Wonderful Pictures! Living in England though i have never actually come across a real life Cicada so i still find them really creepy and im sure if i ever met one i'd scream like a banshee and run for the hills! :D xx
thanks all! I'll be back next week!
Have a super weekend!
gorgeous! thank you for sharing your find.
Gorgeous creature...will there be a cicada painting forthcoming? We called them "June bugs" growing up in the US Midwest. We'd take the empty "shells" that they'd shed and attach them to our shirts by their sharp little claws...strange.
I love the translucent blue green of their fresh wings. So much like FireKing Jadeite! Our trees were covered last year. This year I've only seen two empty shells.
Lovely capture!
And, Wow, again! Fabulous photo's.
holy moley Holly-- what a fantastic group of photos. precious!! I adore the sound of cicadas and they are so seldom seen... what a treat!
