Helicopters

Remember the cluster of maple seeds from my spring collection?
They have dried up a bit, but are still beautiful.
I was inspired to paint them along with some new logs too.

Fostering

I find it fascinating that some birds,
like cowbirds, don't build their own nest.
Instead they lay eggs in the nests of other birds that
will hopefully foster and feed their young.

Me and My Shadow

Presentiment is that long shadow on the lawn
Indicative that suns go down;
The notice to the startled grass
That darkness is about to pass.
-Emily Dickinson

After fourteen years and seven months
we said goodbye to our Lulu.
She will live in our hearts forever.

Jardin

The weather has been cool and breezy lately,
but warm enough to pot some herbs and flowers.

These fabulous herb markers were handmade
by a lovely lady named Polly.

Dwelling

Two bluebirds lying on a bed of sticks and grass.
It could be a nest. It could be a pyre.
There is a fine line between life and death.

Nesting

Sorry for the fuzzy picture. It's the best I could do.
This charming American Robin built a nest on our front porch.
I have been stalking her for days, trying to take a picture.
She is not at all happy about our comings and goings
and is constantly on the move. It can't be good for the little eggs.
I do hope they will hatch!
