Genesis

genesis
I just finished reading The Seven Daughters of Eve.
A genetic study which traces our lineage back thousands of years to seven women.
Needless to say it was a fascinating read and the book of Genesis and beginnings came to mind.
Hence the funny little illustration of Adam and Eve.
my baby fig
Mother sent me a baby fig tree for Christmas,
A cutting rooted from her own tree, which was from my Uncle's tree,
which was from my Nana's tree. We sure do love figs in our family.
I hope I can keep my ancestral tree alive.
I'm going to start adding this series of little musings my Etsy shop today.

I love your musings on ancestry, and I enjoy when your paintings take a narrative turn. That little apple-half at the bottom of the tree is simply delicious!

Seven Daughters of Eve is a great book!

And the fig trees and leaves...such enduring archetypes.

Reminds me of a short poem that I would like share with you and your readers

First Fig
by Edna St. Vincent Millay

My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light.

Beautiful work and I loved that book as well, Seven Daughters of Eve....fascinating! I'm really enamored with the handing down of the fig tree....each one of us is a link between generations....have a fabulous year Holly!

Patti: I'm so glad you read the book too! Endlessly fascinating. Yes, my sweet little figlette is a living link to the past, a fourth generation tree from my Nana's (my great grandmother's) tree. I was so lucky to know both of my great grandmothers on my mother's side. Happy New Year!

Can't tell you how much I love the Adam and Eve painting. It occurs to me that if you had the right kind of friends, it would make a kickass wedding invitation.
