Reflections of Trees

Trees, roots, lungs.
Nature and anatomy are so alike.

This morning the trees
were casting shadows on my palette.
Aren't the reflections beautiful?

Merrily Merrily

There are days when you need a distraction.
Before the world is green.
This is my cure for the winter blues.

Hidden

Secret doors and compartments,
mysterious passageways, fantasy worlds.
I am ever curious about the world on the other side,
a world out of reach and hidden from view.
If only we could peek.

Patterned Plumage

I have a slight obsession with patterns and surface design.
One day I would love to create wallpaper, fabric,
and perhaps a plate service.
In this digital world it just might be possible.
Spoonflower  is an incredible digital fabric service.
I think it would be such fun to explore the possibilities.

I Loved His Style

What People Might Think
detail from mourners painting

“I think it’s important to look at death if it comes under the word macabre because I think that it is part of life. I’ve always been fascinated by the Victorian period of death where they used to take pictures of the dead. It’s not about brushing it under the carpet like we do today. It’s about celebrating someone’s life. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, I think it’s a very sad thing, a melancholic thing. It’s a very romantic thing because it means the end of a cycle. Everything has an end. The cycle of life is a positive thing because it gives room for new things to come.”  Alexander McQueen

How I loved his theatrical style.
He will be missed.

Dangerous Beauty

We have had two blizzards in one week.
Giant icicles have formed all over our cottage.
Some are over four feet long!

Icicles are both scary and beautiful.
These dangerous beauties started to curl
toward our windows like big icy daggers.
We reluctantly knocked them down,
fearing the worst.

Sun Bathing

Vultures sun bathing in winter.

They appear so hostile, so menacing,
when they fan their wings like this.

Nests Part IV

It seems I have lost track of time!
Is it Monday again? Funny how that happens.
Two new nests are in my shop.
I have new birds too.
I'll show them to you on Wednesday.
I hope you all had a great weekend!
