I've had my eye on this pod for months.
It's been hanging in my Rose of Sharon shrub.
I thought it might be a chrysalis.
My curiosity got the best of me.
I decided to dissect it.
It was filled with brown goo.
Mystery unsolved.
Any ideas?

This is so mysterious – in a way beautiful, tough a bit eerie… I guess you’re not wrong thinking about a chrysalis... a butterfly…
Hello Iris, It is eerie. Perhaps it never developed. A mistake in nature.
I have a friend who has a monarch chrysalis right now. I think they attach to milkweed? But her chrysalis looks pretty much like your mystery
pod. You could do a series of drawings to discover or uncover it's true identity!
Hello Mekeel! Yes, you are right about the milkweed. I love your idea of a series to uncover the true identity! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi. I think your mystery pod was a chrysalis of a cecropia moth (5-6 in) in it's change from caterpillar to moth. It seems to take a long time to change, it goes into stasis in the summer and emerges the following spring.
