Picky Picker

I consider myself a seasoned picker and a bit of a snob.

While the throng of tourists raced up the hill to the sea of orange,
destined to be a foregone conclusion with their ordinary, plain pumpkins.

I ran down to the wild and crazy gourd patch on the other side of the hill,
where I practically had the place to myself.
The colors, shapes, and patterns are amazing.

This year I was a tad bit greedy, filling two wagons full.

Can you blame me?

I can totally understand the pure greed which went on that day :-)
Can't wait to see the work which these inspire you to create!!!

I think you and I have a fair amount in common. I am going pumpkin/gourd picking this weekend with the kids. I hope they are as wonky and colourful as yours.

Char, thanks for forgiving my gluttony!

Kate, You are going to have such fun!

Patti, I don't think I'll be going back to the orange pumpkin any time soon. That said, I used to love carving them!

Ah, but wait...the small sugar pumpkins (alas that old boring orange) are wonderful for cooking! We just grew some this year from seeds we saved from pumpkins that were part of the table centerpieces at a wedding a couple of years ago...once we outwitted the rabbits and other varmints, they grew like gangbusters...they make great pie and soup! But your gourds definitely win the beauty contest! Cheers!

Patti, I concede, pumpkins are quite yummy to eat and I absolutely love pumpkin pie and soup too. So don't let my flippant attitude toward them deter you from eating them, because it certainly won't stop me!

I don't blame you one bit, they are all so unique and beautiful! Oh, and nothing wrong with being a snob :)

You could refer to is as having discriminatingly good taste.
