A Closer Look | Baby Cardinals

Hatched! Baby Cardinals.
We found this nest while walking through a woodland path at Blandy - the Virginia Arboretum.
So precious and delicate. Nary a single feather on them.
Just the finest fuzz.

How did you know they were Cardinals? Were mom or dad near by?

Elizabeth: We circled back around to the nest area and waited for their mama to appear and very soon after we saw a cardinal return to feed them.

Fascinating! I've never come across a nest with birds so young. In fact, I've never come across a nest with birds. How close to the ground was it that you could get a pic inside?

Mrs. Pom: The nest was built on top of a sign post that was about four or five feet off the ground. I couldn't quite see them very well standing next to the nest so I hovered my camera above the nest and took pictures from above.
