Fuzzy

There's nothing like picking fresh fruit right off the tree.

It's the end of summer and peaches are in season.

Hollin Farms is a few mile from our house.

It's such a great day trip if you live Virginia or Washington, DC.

They also have lots of tomatoes, veggies and greens.

The views are spectacular.

We'll return in the fall for pumpkins and gourds.

Trailing Lights

The moving walkway at the National Gallery of Art.

Reminds me of neon when the lights are blurred like this.

Saw an interesting exhibit of  Allen Ginsberg's photographs.

A window into his life as a beat poet, many pictures from the early years. 

The movie Howl is coming out soon. I'm intrigued.

Snakes Again

Nest No. 27

Earlier this summer my nesting box was visited by a large snake. 

The poor little wrens were so agitated and distraught. 

They were no match for such a foe.

We tried to help them but it was too late.

The incident inspired the painting.

Covey No. 1

A flock of birds.

I have been working on this large painting for a while

and I'm so excited to share it with you!

Though a covey might imply incubating or roosting flocks,

the origin of the word comes from the Latin cubare, 

to lie down.

This has been the summer of snakes.

In the trees, sunning on the rocks, in my dreams,

and sadly in my nesting boxes. I can't seem to escape them.

Nature is so curious and so cruel at times.

Inspired by doll parts, marionettes, various states of being.

Melancholy Marionettes

I purchased these lovely little doll parts from happysteiler's shop on Etsy. 

I put them in a tiny shaker box that was handmade by a local artisan.

They are so sweet and a little sad too. 

Melancholy marionettes without strings.

They remind me of a series of anatomical paintings I made years ago.

Perhaps I can find them and show you.
