Coveys

A flock of birds.
I have been working on this large painting for a while
and I'm so excited to share it with you!
Though a covey might imply incubating or roosting flocks,
the origin of the word comes from the Latin cubare,
to lie down.

This covey is one of your most masterful, complex, observational works - it is lovely, lovely, lovely. There is such delicacy, tenderness and sweetness to each bird. You have created a really wonderful piece.

Have loved your work since the first time I saw it in a treasury on Etsy. But, "Covey No. 1" is by far my all time favorite!!!

Just stunning. I love this composition, and the way you depict birds throughout your work. I have a bit of a 'thing' for the stillness of birds, especially birds on their backs!

; ) me too! thank you for your kind note. I'm reading a book right now about the history of natural history museums. It is called Stuffed Animal and Pickled Heads.

I am now searching for a copy of Stuffed Animal and Pickled Heads (it's all your fault)!! This kind of reading material is right down my alley. Thanks so much for the reference.

Are you familiar with the artist Helen Gregory? She's from Newfoundland and paints in acrylics, but is interested in the same themes. This painting in particular reminded me of her. Nice work!

Therese: Thank you for introducing me to her work. We are surely kindred spirits!
