A Closer Look | Fat Cats

Check out these fat cats dining on my neighbor's parsley!
They're black swallowtail caterpillars!

Wow, in that first photo he's standing up to pose for the picture! Reminds me of the caterpillar in Disney's Alice in Wonderland.

Aren't they adorable? I have ben stalking all of the roadside milkweed for weeks in hope of finding a monarch caterpillar. Alas, it was not meant to be. Just as I was beginning to pout about it my neighbor told me about her little fellows. I ran over with my camera. She also loaned me a great little field guide on caterpillars in north america so that I can actually try to properly identify the things i find!
